Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is run by Dr. Peloso with the support of nurse Ms. Lynn Hilt. MRI has advanced the field of orthopedics and musculoskeletal disease faster and further than any other diagnostic tool in history. Using this sophisticated equipment we are able to look inside the foot, joints, tendons and ligaments to find and monitor sources of lameness that have been elusive for so long. For disease of the foot, MRI is generally performed in the standing, sedated horse, and lasts for 1-3 hours. For diseases up to the carpus and tarsus, MRI is generally performed under general anesthesia. MRI is a safe and non-invasive procedure. EMCO’s MRI is currently the only standing equine unit in the Southeastern United States.
